Angie Scharnhorst, President of TogetherKC.org, embodies a lifelong commitment to serving those in need, a value instilled by her parents. At age 10, during a visit to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, she was profoundly impacted by the sight of countless cooking fires illuminating the hills, symbolizing widespread poverty. This experience deepened her understanding of the complexities of human existence and the moral obligation to assist those less fortunate.

A native of Kansas City, Angie has dedicated her career to addressing common needs through various roles:

• Journalist: Aimed to inform readers, enabling them to make decisions that enhance their communities.
• Fire and Ambulance Dispatcher: Provided immediate assistance to individuals facing critical emergencies.
• Paralegal: Assisted thousands seeking justice for life-altering events beyond their control.

In each position, Angie upheld the principles of respect, compassion, and professionalism, especially toward those enduring severe hardships.

As President of TogetherKC.org, Angie continues her mission by addressing the needs of Kansas City's homeless and food-insecure populations. 

  Our Approach:

 Recognizing the city's existing support organizations, TogetherKC.org focuses on reaching individuals who cannot access traditional assistance. By delivering food and supplies directly to those in need, the organization ensures that even the most vulnerable receive essential support.TogetherKC.org is a Kansas City-based nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing homelessness and food insecurity within our community. Founded in 2024, our mission is to deliver essential resources directly to those in need, ensuring that no individual is left without support.
 

Our leadership team brings not only expertise but also lived experience to our mission, as three of our board members have faced homelessness themselves. This unique perspective fuels our passion and deepens our commitment to those we serve. We see the quiet suffering of homelessness every day—in every corner, on every street—a constant reminder of the hardship that so many endure and the shared humanity that calls us to act. There is sadness in witnessing needs go unmet and dignity diminished. We believe in a Kansas City where no one is left behind, where compassion guides us, and where we work together to create lasting social change.

Since our inception, TogetherKC.org has made significant strides in alleviating hunger and homelessness in Kansas City. Through our dedicated efforts, we have:

• Delivered Food Supplies: From March 2023 to March2024, we delivered 1,936 packages of nutritious food supplies directly to individuals in need, ensuring they receive sustenance without barriers.
• Distributed Essential Supplies: Supplied clothing, hygiene products, and other necessities to support the well-being of our community members.
• Advocated for Systemic Change: Engaged with local policymakers and organizations to address the root causes of homelessness and food insecurity, striving for long-term solutions.
